Job Description

Maritime Recruiter – Permanent & Crewing

Location: Dartford, Kent – Office-Based
Employment Type: Full-Time
Company: Jobs in Maritime – MCA Certified Recruitment & Placement Agency

About the Role

Jobs in Maritime is looking for an experienced and confident Maritime Recruiter to join our growing team, specialising in permanent recruitment and crewing across the maritime sector.

This is a delivery-focused recruitment role with responsibility for identifying, attracting, screening and placing high-quality maritime professionals and seafarers.

You will work across a variety of shore-based and sea-going vacancies, managing candidates throughout the recruitment process and developing strong talent pipelines for current and future requirements.

While this is not a business development or client account management role, we are looking for someone with strong commercial awareness. Through conversations with candidates and your knowledge of the maritime market, you will be expected to recognise potential hiring activity, identify prospective clients and pass relevant leads and market intelligence to the wider commercial team.

This role would suit an experienced maritime recruiter or crewing professional who enjoys the candidate, sourcing and placement side of recruitment and wants to work in a fast-moving, specialist environment.

Key Responsibilities

Recruitment & Candidate Delivery

  • Source and attract candidates using CV databases, job boards, LinkedIn, social media, referrals and direct sourcing.
  • Proactively identify and approach suitable passive candidates for specialist and hard-to-fill vacancies.
  • Conduct screening calls, telephone interviews and video interviews to assess candidate suitability.
  • Assess candidates against job requirements, technical experience, qualifications and certifications.
  • Create strong candidate shortlists for permanent and crewing vacancies.
  • Coordinate and arrange interviews.
  • Maintain regular contact with candidates, providing feedback, updates and guidance throughout the recruitment process.
  • Manage candidate availability and expectations through to placement and start date.
  • Build and maintain strong talent pools for current and future vacancies.
  • Develop long-term relationships with maritime professionals and maintain an active candidate network.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date information within the recruitment CRM and candidate systems.

Crewing & Seafarer Recruitment

  • Source and recruit appropriately qualified seafarers for vessel and crewing requirements.
  • Understand Merchant Navy ranks, vessel types, rotations, joining requirements and relevant maritime certification.
  • Review candidate experience, qualifications and documentation against vessel requirements.
  • Support the verification of certificates, qualifications and pre-employment documentation.
  • Coordinate candidate availability and support mobilisation requirements.
  • Maintain accurate and compliant seafarer records.
  • Develop pools of qualified and available seafarers to support current and future crewing requirements.
  • Ensure recruitment and placement activity is conducted in accordance with relevant legislation, company procedures and MCA requirements.

Commercial Awareness & Market Intelligence

  • Develop a strong understanding of activity across the maritime recruitment market.
  • Identify potential hiring activity through candidate conversations, industry knowledge, market movements and your professional network.
  • Recognise prospective companies that may have recruitment or crewing requirements.
  • Pass relevant job leads, prospective client information and market intelligence to the appropriate member of the team.
  • Keep an eye on competitor activity, industry developments and emerging recruitment trends.
  • Act as the eyes and ears of the business while remaining primarily focused on recruitment delivery.
  • Contribute to individual and team performance against agreed recruitment and placement KPIs.

This position does not carry responsibility for cold business development, negotiating commercial terms or ongoing client account management.

Skills & Experience Required

  • Previous experience in maritime recruitment, crewing or seafarer placement.
  • Strong understanding of Merchant Navy ranks, marine qualifications and maritime certification.
  • Proven ability to source and engage candidates through multiple channels.
  • Confident conducting candidate screening and interviews.
  • Strong judgement and the ability to quickly assess candidate suitability.
  • Excellent telephone and written communication skills.
  • Strong relationship-building skills and the ability to gain candidates’ confidence.
  • Good commercial awareness and the ability to recognise potential recruitment opportunities.
  • Target-driven and comfortable working towards recruitment and placement KPIs.
  • Highly organised with strong attention to detail.
  • Resilient, proactive and comfortable working in a fast-paced recruitment environment.
  • Competent using recruitment CRMs, job boards, LinkedIn and candidate sourcing platforms.
  • Able to work independently while contributing positively to the wider team.

Qualifications & Background

  • Previous experience within maritime recruitment, crewing or seafarer placement.
  • Good knowledge of maritime roles, ranks, qualifications and certification.
  • Strong literacy, numeracy and general IT skills.

Desirable:

  • Experience recruiting across both permanent shore-based maritime roles and sea-going positions.

  • Work within a supportive and knowledgeable team.
  • Opportunity to grow and progress as Jobs in Maritime continues to expand.
