Job Description

Reports to – General Manager

Department – Operations

Salary – £40K per annum

Location – Cornwall

Job Purpose

The SW is a working Supervisor who is a qualified, and experienced, fitter or fabricator and is responsible for supporting the GM and for supervising the on-site Operations teams. This includes managing the teams on all planned and reactive maintenance needs on site, ensuring the equipment needed is available and ensuring that downtime is kept to minimum whilst ensuring that all work carried out is done safely and within the individual competency levels of each team member. The SW is also responsible for supporting all aspects of the project work, including project administration such as issuing permits to work, that comes into the Dry Dock.

Knowledge Skills and Experiences

Knowledge

  • Qualified engineer with proven experience in a marine environment and in a supervisory role.
  • The ability to prepare and manage a preventative maintenance plan and to support all of the projects coming into the Dry Dock.

Skills

  • Engineering skills (preferably mechanical and electrical with welding skills)
  • People management skills (including motivation, performance management and disciplinary)
  • Holds a nationally recognised H&S qualification (Nebosh or IOSH)

Experience

  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience in a supervisory role in a busy operational environment.
  • Proven experience in effective people management

Qualifications

Qualified Fabricator/fitter with some engineering knowledge and proven supervisory experience with a H&S qualification

Electrical engineering knowledge would be a bonus but not essential

  • Able to develop and manage an employee training and competency matrix ensuring all operations employees are competent within their roles and that their training records are up to date

Budgetary Responsibility

Responsible for controlling the engineering inventory to ensure we have equipment ready when needed without holding too much stock

Outputs

  • Working alongside the GM to ensure that projects are completed in full and on time and within budget. Taking instruction from the GM.
  • Site maintenance is kept up to date
  • Equipment is serviced as frequently as is needed

Interactions

The SW has a key role to play in supporting the GM and ensuring the site is productive and profitable.

The SW interacts with all employees, and subcontractors on site and, as such, needs to act professionally at all times
