‘Meeting the Demand of Commerce on the River Thames in the 21st Century  Open Day’ – Promoting the awareness of the skills required for work on the River Thames, Thursday 18th July 2013, Port of London Authority, Royal Terrace Pier & Denton Wharf, Gravesend, Kent.

Supported by the Port of London Authority, the open day will tell the story of businesses that operate on the river and the skills that they will require to continue meeting the demands of commerce on the River Thames in the 21st Century.

Interaction between business, education and jobseekers to best equip individuals with the knowledge of the skills and mindset to work on the River Thames, will be facilitated by the National Maritime Development Group.

With access to the Royal Terrace Pier, the use of current and topical information and technology will be used by over 24 exhibitors to communicate this message in an active and engaging way, with further opportunities for selected groups in education and those seeking employment, to tour the Port of London facilities at Denton Wharf, to help promote progression to employment and introduce real-world working skills and career paths.

The maritime jobsite and Job Centre Plus will also be present to connect talented people to businesses, providing job-matching opportunities to current vacancies available on the River Thames.

The ‘Meeting the Demand of Commerce on the River Thames in the 21st Century  Open Day’  will be launched at the Thames and Channel National Maritime Development Group breakfast meeting , at Denton Wharf, with the mornings speakers being the Thames Training Alliance.

Those attending the breakfast will be invited to tour the Port of London Authority facilities at Denton Wharf which includes access to:

–          Workshops

–          Shotblasting booth

–          Divers area incorporating the decompression tank

–          TOSCA (Oil Spill Response)

–          The Ness boat (salvage craft)

–          Jett Boat lift / boat mover
–          Svitzer tug operations
–          Briefing on the role of the Marine Surveyors  / programme for a marine trainee (to be confirmed)
–          Hydrographic (to be confirmed)

–          Port Control Centre (to be confirmed)

The cost to exhibit at this event is £150 + VAT for members of the National Maritime Development Group and £200 + VAT to non-members. Please note spaces are limited.
