Project Manager – Defence Maintenance Refit Project
Location: Rosyth, Scotland
Project Duration: August 2025 – February 2026
Start Date: 1st Week of August 2025

Overview:
This is a high-profile, intensive refit and maintenance project The focus of the project is on the underwater systems and structural integrity of the vessel, necessitating a complex and tightly managed work schedule.
Key Responsibilities:

Lead, coordinate, and manage the end-to-end execution of the underwater and below-the-waterline scope of work

Oversee the planning, scheduling, and execution of major components including:
-
Replacement of 288 external hull valves and 170 HP saltwater valves.
-
Shaft removal, inspection, repair, and reinstallation.
-
Rudder drop, inspection, repair, and reinstallation.
-
Stabiliser and coupling system inspections and repairs.
-
Inspection of 29 ship-side tanks, including potential reactive growth work from Lloyd’s Register findings.

Installation and inspection of anodes and cathodic protection systems.
-
Coordination of all additional below-the-line works as identified.

Manage and deploy resources for continuous 24/7 operations as required to meet project deadlines.

Interface with Royal Navy representatives, Lloyd’s surveyors, subcontractors, and internal stakeholders.

Ensure all activities are carried out in accordance with health, safety, environmental, and quality standards.

Monitor and manage risk, ensuring contingency plans are in place for any emerging issues.

Maintain accurate and up-to-date project documentation, progress reports, and compliance tracking.

Liaise with ship’s office and watch staff; ship’s full crew will be offboarded for the duration.
Requirements:

Proven experience in managing large-scale defence naval or marine engineering projects, ideally involving dry dock, hull, and underwater systems.

Strong leadership skills with the ability to drive a multi-disciplinary team under tight timelines.

Excellent understanding of mechanical, structural, and marine systems.

Familiarity with working to classification society standards (e.g., Lloyd’s Register).

Strong communication and stakeholder management abilities.

Demonstrated capability in managing 24/7 shift-based operations.

Proficient in project management tools and reporting.
-
UK Nationals only – must be eligible and willing to undergo MOD security clearance.
Desirable:
-
Previous experience working on Royal Navy vessels or other major defence maritime assets.

Engineering qualifications or marine/naval architecture background.
-
Knowledge of cathodic protection systems and valve/hull refurbishment methodologies.
