Job Description

LOCATION: Ports of Aberdeen (North & South Harbours)

TERM: 6-month contract

Day rate £300

We’re looking for a capable, safety‑driven Marine Engineer to take responsibility for the mechanical integrity and operational readiness of our oil barge across the Ports of Aberdeen (North & South Harbour).

This role suits someone who understands the technical and regulatory demands of maintaining propulsion, power generation, and cargo‑handling systems in a busy commercial port environment, and who can support and guide the crew with confidence, discipline, and sound engineering judgement.

Your main duties will include, but are not limited to:

  • Carry out engine and drivetrain diagnostics, repairs, and rebuilds
  • Maintain and troubleshoot AC & DC electrical systems
  • Work with and understand PLC systems
  • Conduct vessel inspections and prepare technical reports
  • Source parts, obtain quotations, and manage job related procurement

Qualification and Training

Essential 

  • 2-5 years hands on marine engineering experience
  • Strong practical knowledge of marine engines, systems, and fault finding
  • Approved Engine Course (AEC) Parts 1 and 2
  • Valid STWC certificates (including all mandatory safety training)
  • ENG1 Medical Certificate (UK seafarer’s medical)

Knowledge, Understanding and experience

  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills
  • Good organisational skills
  • Working knowledge of MS Word/Excel
  • Understanding of Merchant Shipping Regulations 2018
