LOCATION: Ports of Aberdeen (North & South Harbours)

TERM: 6-month contract

Day rate £200

We are recruiting an experienced and safety-focused Deckhand to join a motorised tank barge engaged in bunkering operations in the North & South Harbours of Aberdeen. This 6-month contract role is ideal for candidates with experience in fuel transfer, tanker operations, or harbour vessel support, who are committed to maintaining high operational and safety standards.

Your main duties will include, but are not limited to:

• Assist with bunkering operations, including safe connection, monitoring, and disconnection of hoses for fuel transfer
• Support mooring, unmooring, and vessel manoeuvring operations in port and alongside client vessels
• Carry out routine deck duties, ensuring all areas are clean, organised, and compliant with safety standards
• Monitor tank levels, valves, and transfer systems during bunkering under supervision
• Operate deck equipment such as winches, pumps, and hose handling gear safely
• Assist with pre-transfer checks, including spill prevention measures and safety inspections
• Maintain and inspect bunkering equipment, pipelines, and deck machinery
• Participate in emergency response procedures, including spill response and firefighting drills
• Ensure compliance with MARPOL regulations, company procedures, and port authority requirements
• Communicate effectively with the Master, Engineer, and other crew during operations

Qualification and Training

Essential 

• A valid ML5 Medical or ENG 1
• Valid STWC certificates (including all mandatory safety training)
• Previous experience as a Deckhand on tankers, barges or bunkering vessels

Knowledge, Understanding and experience

• Excellent written and spoken communication skills
• Good organisational skills
• Working knowledge of MS Word/Excel
• Understanding of Merchant Shipping Regulations 2018
