We are working exclusively on behalf of our client Penzance Dry Dock

We are seeking an outstanding individual to join our growing team at Penzance Dry Dock. We are now looking for an experienced Business Development Manager to join our project team.

The ideal candidate will help grow the drydock and generate new business

Working within the team you will need to demonstrate the following

  • Exceptional attention to detail, the ability to read and understand a specification, to engage with customers and colleagues, allowing you to develop a commercially accurate tender submission.
  • Create project timelines
  • In depth knowledge and experience in shipbuilding & Shiprepair
  • Previous quoting experience is helpful
  • Have a problem-solving attitude, able to work as part of a team but also able to manage own workload.
  • Responsible for the sales pipeline

Key Responsibilities

  • Undertaking vessel surveys to clarify scope, capturing detailed requirements and key dependencies, assumptions and exclusions.
  • Preparing bid documentation, specifications, tender, and proposals.
  • Through working closely with the procurement team, you will ensure that all material pricing, subcontract and plant hire estimates are adequately covered.
  • Being the key client contact throughout the project.
  • You will be responsible for the Labour estimates for a number of engineering activities, such as Fabrication and Mechanical and electrical assemblies.
  • Working with the commercial team to continuous improve business and ensure a high level of conversion of estimates to orders.
  • Assisting with financial forecasting, managing sub contractors, settling final bills with customers assisting the team
  • Any other activities that are necessary to support the company’s operations and growth

Essential skills, experience and qualifications:

  • You’ll be proficient in pricing and costing marine projects such as vessel refits, refurbishments and repairs.
  • You’ll have a HNC in an Engineering or Business subject (or a recognised equivalent in Project Management) and experience with cost estimation, cost and data analysis, and cost modelling and assurance.
  • You’ll have a proven track record of managing large scale marine projects and be highly organised with excellent communication skills.
  • Familiarity with maritime rules, regulations, and guidelines.
  • You’ll have strong leadership skills and team management experience.
  • Ability to formulate costs and relate these to actual activities across trades.
  • Experience with workboat code and classification society.
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Office applications and estimating software.
  • The ability to interpret written engineering specifications and technical drawings.
  • You’ll be numerate, with excellent interpersonal skills and written and verbal communication abilities. Analytical approach to problem-solving.
  • You’ll be able to manage multiple stakeholders in scenarios with competing priorities and love working in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
  • Ability to produce reports for senior management
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in sales or technical role
  • Background in naval architecture and project management
  • Good sound knowledge of the marine sector
  • Experience in growing start ups
  • Experience in shipbuilding & Repair
  • Previous experience in growing dry docks would be preferrable
  • Valid Full Driving License
  • Target Orientated

  • Full sales cycle experience – generating lead to close

Salary £40K plus bonuses based on performance at end of financial year
